What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of swapping a plastic card, you scan a QR code and a second line appears on your phone, data only, separate from your own number. Most phones from 2018 onward support it.

Because it’s a roaming line and not a local SIM, there is no contract, no local registration and no bill at the end of the month. You pay once, use the data, and it expires.

Does my eSIM come with a phone number or SMS?
No, it's data-only. Keep your home SIM active in the phone for calls and bank OTP codes. WhatsApp, iMessage and FaceTime keep working over data on your existing number, so you stay reachable as usual.
Will my phone work with an eSIM?
You need a phone that is eSIM-capable and carrier-unlocked. Quick check: dial *#06#, if an EID line appears, your phone has eSIM hardware. Then confirm it's unlocked with your carrier. Our Supported devices page walks through both checks.
When does my plan start? Can I buy before my trip?
Buy early, that's the recommended way. Install on Wi-Fi at home, and for most plans validity only starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in your destination. Each plan card states its exact activation rule.
Should I turn on data roaming?
Yes, on the eSIM line only. Travel eSIMs work as roaming lines, so enabling Data Roaming for the eSIM is normal and costs nothing extra. Keep roaming off on your home SIM to avoid your own carrier's charges.
Does hotspot and tethering work?
On most plans, yes, it's marked on each plan so you can check before buying. Share your connection with a laptop, tablet or a second phone. Hotspot data comes out of your plan's normal allowance.
Are purchases final?
Yes, because eSIMs are delivered instantly and can't be returned, all sales are final once purchased. Check your phone on the Supported devices page first, and start with a smaller plan if you're unsure. You can always top up later.
