Connectivity in Tanzania
Your Simzora eSIM connects to Tanzania's main mobile networks, Vodacom, Airtel and Yas, and switches automatically to whichever gives the strongest signal where you happen to be. In Dar es Salaam, Arusha and the busier tourist parts of Zanzibar you can expect solid 4G and LTE for maps, streaming and video calls, with 5G reachable in a few central city areas. Coverage naturally thins on the roads between towns, inside the national parks, on higher ground near Kilimanjaro, and around the quieter beaches and inland villages of Zanzibar, where speeds can drop to 3G or come and go. This is normal for Tanzania and reflects the way the local networks are built rather than any fault with the eSIM.
The eSIM joins these networks as an international roaming line rather than a local SIM, so you need to switch Data Roaming on for the Simzora line in your settings. This is completely normal for a travel eSIM and costs nothing extra, as your data allowance is already included in the plan. It is a data-only line with no Tanzanian number and no SMS, so keep your usual SIM active in another phone to receive bank and login codes, while WhatsApp and iMessage carry on working over the data connection.
If your phone shows No Service in the first few minutes after you land, switch Airplane Mode on for about ten seconds and then off again, which nudges the handset to search for a fresh network. Indoors, in lifts, basement bars and thick-walled hotels, the signal can dip, so moving towards a window or stepping outside usually brings it back. It also helps to install the plan before you travel, as most plans begin only on the first network connection in Tanzania.
Because this is roaming traffic, your data may leave through a gateway outside Tanzania, so some websites and apps might greet you in another language or treat you as browsing from abroad. This is expected and does not mean anything is broken, though you may occasionally need to set your country or language by hand. On the water between the mainland and Zanzibar, on the ferries and deep inside the parks, expect stretches with little or no signal, so download maps, tickets and boarding passes while you still have a strong connection.

On Wi-Fi: set the eSIM as your data line, then turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line only, normal for travel eSIMs, costs nothing extra. Your home SIM stays untouched.
Your plan starts per the policy on its card, at purchase, or first connection in your destination. One rule forever: never delete the eSIM; top up instead.
Tanzania eSIM FAQs
Which networks will I get in Tanzania?+−
Your eSIM roams across Tanzania's leading networks, Vodacom, Airtel and Yas, and picks whichever is strongest in your location automatically. In Dar es Salaam, Arusha and central Zanzibar this usually means dependable 4G and LTE, while more remote areas may fall back to slower speeds. You cannot lock a single network by hand, as the roaming profile manages that choice for you.
Do I get a Tanzania phone number or SMS?+−
No, this is a data-only eSIM, so it comes without a Tanzanian number and cannot send or receive SMS. Keep your normal SIM active in another handset if you need bank or login codes by text. Apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage will work as usual over the data connection.
How much data do I get and when does the plan start?+−
Your allowance is the bundle you chose at checkout, and it covers data only, with no call minutes attached. Most plans start counting from your first connection to a Tanzanian network, so you can install everything over Wi-Fi before you travel. Once you land and Data Roaming is on, the plan activates and the clock begins.
Will the eSIM work on Zanzibar and in the safari parks?+−
Zanzibar is well covered around Stone Town and the busy resort strips, but the signal can weaken on the quieter east coast beaches and inland lanes. If you are visiting the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater or climbing Kilimanjaro, plan for long stretches with little or no coverage and download what you need in advance. Treat connectivity in those areas as a bonus rather than something to rely on for navigation or safety.
