Connectivity in Sri Lanka

The famous Kandy to Ella train is the classic test of any Sri Lankan SIM. You will hold a signal through the bigger tea-country towns, but expect it to fade through tunnels and the steeper valleys between stations, which is normal for the terrain rather than a fault with the plan. On safari in Yala or Wilpattu, coverage is patchy once you are deep in the park, so download maps and bookings before you set off.
You can land at Bandaranaike International near Colombo and be online before you reach the immigration and customs queues, which makes arranging a pickup or PickMe ride simple. Because this is a data-only roaming plan, your traffic may route through a gateway outside Sri Lanka, so the odd banking or streaming site might treat you as browsing from abroad. It rarely affects everyday apps like maps, WhatsApp and email.
