Using your South Korea eSIM

Plans roam on South Korea's two strongest networks. Expect fast 5G across Seoul, Busan and Incheon, running deep into the subway tunnels and inside the big department stores and underground malls. Coverage stays strong on Jeju Island and along the KTX high-speed line; it only really softens on remote mountain trails like Seoraksan and the quieter inland valleys.

South Korea runs some of the fastest mobile internet anywhere on the planet. Full 5G reaches almost everywhere a traveller actually goes, the whole of Seoul and Busan, the metro platforms and trains underground, and most of Jeju, so it is genuinely hard to find a spot with no signal. You will notice maps, translation apps and video loading quickly even in packed areas where networks elsewhere would choke.

Incheon and Gimpo arrivals halls have strong signal, so the eSIM connects before you reach passport control. Turn Data Roaming on for the eSIM line, which is normal for a travel eSIM and costs nothing extra. Because this is a roaming line, your data may exit through a non-Korean gateway, so a few sites might treat you as browsing from abroad; if that ever changes we will say so plainly.

  • Install and set up the eSIM on Wi-Fi before you fly; the plan only starts once it first connects to a network in Korea.
  • Set the eSIM as your mobile-data line and switch Data Roaming on for that line only, leaving your home SIM for calls and texts.
  • If you see 'No Service' just after landing, toggle Airplane Mode once and the phone will re-select fast local partner networks.

Frequently asked questions

Fast local partner networks, selected automatically. Both give you fast 5G across Seoul, Busan and Jeju, including inside the subway; signal only really thins out on remote mountain trails.
No, it's data-only, with no SMS or calls on the eSIM line. Keep your own SIM active in another phone for OTP codes and regular calls. WhatsApp and FaceTime keep working over data on your existing number.
Standard plans top up with no new QR code. Unlimited plans can be topped up too, which adds another full period of the same plan on the same eSIM rather than extra gigabytes, with no new QR code.
In the cities, yes. South Korea has some of the fastest mobile internet in the world, with full 5G across Seoul, Busan and the subway and strong coverage on Jeju. We don't promise specific speeds, but you'll rarely find a spot without signal.
