eSIM for Puerto Rico

Your Simzora eSIM connects as an international roaming line on Puerto Rico's main mobile networks, switching between them automatically to hold the strongest signal. Expect fast 5G and LTE across San Juan, including Old San Juan, Condado and the Isla Verde airport area, along with Ponce on the south coast and the surf town of Rincón in the west. Coverage is genuinely strong in and around these cities and on the main highways that link them, but be honest with your expectations: it thins out in the mountainous interior of the Cordillera Central, deep in the El Yunque rainforest and on the smaller outer islands, where any network can soften or drop.

This is a data-only line, so there is no Puerto Rico phone number and no calls or SMS on the eSIM itself. Keep your usual home SIM in the phone for bank and login OTP codes and for regular calls, and set the Simzora eSIM as your mobile-data line. Because it registers as a visiting roaming line on the local networks, you need to switch Data Roaming on for that eSIM line, which is completely normal and carries no extra cost, it simply lets the eSIM pick up fast local partner networks. WhatsApp, maps, email and browsing all work over the data connection as usual.

Most Simzora plans start counting from your first connection in Puerto Rico, so install and set up the eSIM over Wi-Fi before you travel, while you still have a steady connection at home. When you land at San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín airport, the eSIM usually registers within a minute or two, often before you reach the arrivals hall. If your phone shows No Service or will not pick up data after landing, flip Airplane Mode on and off once, or restart the phone, to nudge it into re-selecting one of the local networks.

One honest note on how the roaming works: because your data travels as a visiting line, it can exit through an internet gateway outside Puerto Rico, so a few websites or apps may treat you as if you are browsing from elsewhere. Everyday tools like maps, messaging, streaming and browsing work normally, and this is a minor quirk rather than a problem. If routing rules like this ever change, we will say so plainly.
