Connectivity in Oman
This eSIM connects to Omantel and Ooredoo, the two networks that carry most of Oman's mobile traffic, and it picks whichever is stronger where you are. You get fast 5G and LTE across Muscat, Muttrah, Seeb and the airport corridor, along with Salalah, Nizwa, Sohar and Sur. Coverage thins on the mountain switchbacks up to Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams, along the desert tracks into the Wahiba Sands, and on the long empty stretches of the coastal road toward the Empty Quarter.
Musandam is worth a note on its own. The peninsula sits separated from the rest of Oman by the UAE, so if you drive up for the Khasab fjords you may briefly pick up a UAE network before Omantel returns, and signal drops to nothing once you are out on a dhow between the cliffs. In Dhofar during the khareef, the summer monsoon that turns the hills around Salalah green, service holds well in town but softens on the misty mountain roads inland.
You can connect the moment you land at Muscat International, usually while you are still walking to passport control, so a ride or a hotel message is sorted before you reach customs. Because the data can route through a gateway outside Oman, some websites and apps may treat you as browsing from another country, so a banking app or a local service might occasionally ask for extra verification.

On Wi-Fi: set the eSIM as your data line, then turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line only, normal for travel eSIMs, costs nothing extra. Your home SIM stays untouched.
Your plan starts per the policy on its card, at purchase, or first connection in your destination. One rule forever: never delete the eSIM; top up instead.
Oman eSIM FAQs
Which networks and areas does it cover in Oman?+−
It runs on Omantel and Ooredoo and switches to whichever is stronger nearby. Cities like Muscat, Salalah, Nizwa and Sur get solid 5G and LTE, while the Jebel Akhdar and Jebel Shams mountain roads, the Wahiba Sands and the remote desert highways can drop to weak signal or none.
Can I make calls and get text codes on this eSIM?+−
No, it is a data-only plan with no phone number, so it cannot receive SMS or calls. Keep your normal SIM in the phone for bank OTP codes and calls, and use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM data, which still work on your existing number.
Can I top up if I run low on data?+−
Standard plans can be topped up with more data before or after they run out, so you can extend without losing your setup. Unlimited plans cannot be topped up, so once one ends you simply buy a fresh plan.
Will it work if I drive up to Musandam?+−
It works, but expect quirks. Because Musandam is cut off from mainland Oman by the UAE, your phone may latch onto a UAE network on the drive up before Omantel returns, and out on a fjord cruise the cliffs block signal almost entirely.
