Connectivity in Nepal
Your eSIM connects as an international roaming line on Ncell or Nepal Telecom (NTC), the two largest networks in Nepal. Expect dependable 4G and LTE across the Kathmandu Valley, including Patan and Bhaktapur, along with Pokhara, the Chitwan gateway town of Sauraha, Lumbini and the Terai cities of Butwal and Biratnagar. Coverage thins as you climb, stepping down through the hill towns and going patchy on the high trekking trails.
Nepal's terrain shapes the signal far more than any city map does. On the popular treks, the Everest Base Camp route through Namche Bazaar and the Annapurna Circuit, Nepal Telecom generally reaches further up the valleys than Ncell, but even it fades above the villages and drops out on the high passes. Teahouses along the trails often sell their own Wi-Fi, so plan to be offline between settlements rather than connected the whole way.
The eSIM latches onto a partner network in the arrivals hall at Tribhuvan International in Kathmandu, so you are usually online before you reach the visa-on-arrival counter and customs. It is a data-only line with no Nepali number. Because roaming traffic can exit through a gateway outside Nepal, a few sites and apps may treat you as browsing from another country, a minor quirk that does not affect maps, messaging or everyday browsing.

Nepal eSIM FAQs
Which networks and coverage do I get in Nepal?+−
Your data runs on Ncell and Nepal Telecom (NTC), the country's two biggest operators, with the eSIM choosing whichever gives the stronger signal at the time. You get solid 4G and LTE across the Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Chitwan and the Terai cities, with coverage thinning in the hills and going patchy on the high mountain treks.
Can I make calls or receive bank OTP texts on the eSIM?+−
No. This is a data-only plan with no phone number, so there is no SMS or voice calling on the eSIM line. Keep your usual SIM in the phone to receive bank OTP codes and take regular calls, and use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the data connection to stay reachable on your own number.
Can I top up if I start running low on data?+−
Standard plans can be topped up with more data at any time, with no new QR code to scan and no reinstall. Unlimited plans cannot be topped up, so once one is used up you simply buy a new plan to carry on.
Will it work on the Everest Base Camp or Annapurna trek?+−
Around the trailhead towns and lower villages, usually yes, and Nepal Telecom tends to reach further up the popular routes than Ncell, especially near Namche Bazaar and the lower Annapurna. Higher up, signal becomes intermittent and disappears on the high passes and remote valleys, so lean on teahouse Wi-Fi and download offline maps before you set off.
