Connectivity in Mauritius

Your Simzora eSIM connects in Mauritius through the island's main mobile networks, my.t and Emtel, so your phone settles onto whichever gives the stronger signal where you are. Across Port Louis, Grand Baie and Flic en Flac you can expect dependable 4G and LTE for maps, messaging, streaming and video calls, with 5G reachable in parts of the busier towns. Coverage naturally thins out across the sugar cane interior, the Black River Gorges, the mountain roads and on boat trips to the outer islets, where speeds drop or the signal comes and goes.

The eSIM works as an international roaming line sitting on those local networks, rather than as a Mauritian SIM, so you must switch Data Roaming on for the eSIM line in your settings. This is completely normal for a travel eSIM and costs nothing extra, as your plan already covers the data. Leaving Data Roaming off is the most common reason a new eSIM shows no internet, so check that toggle first.

If your phone reads No Service for a minute or two after you land, turn Airplane Mode on and off once and the eSIM should register on my.t or Emtel. Indoor coverage can dip inside thick concrete hotels, basement car parks and some shopping centres, so moving near a window or stepping outside usually restores full bars. Give it a few moments on first arrival, as registering on a foreign network can take a little longer than at home.

Because this is a roaming connection, some of your traffic can leave Mauritius through a gateway in another country, so a few apps, streaming services or banking pages may occasionally treat you as browsing from abroad and show content or a login check for that location. This is a normal quirk of roaming data and not a fault with the eSIM. If you plan to explore Rodrigues, the far south or a full day at sea, download maps and anything important while you still have a strong city signal, as remote and offshore coverage can be patchy.

SET UP ON YOUR PHONE

Installed in minutes, before you fly

Do it on home Wi-Fi the day you buy. Three small steps:

1 / 3
Scan the QR, or skip it entirely

The one-tap Install button on your delivery screen does it without any scanning. Prefer the QR? Open your email on a second screen. Samsung? Paste the manual code, it always works.

2 / 3
Set up your device

On Wi-Fi: set the eSIM as your data line, then turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line only, normal for travel eSIMs, costs nothing extra. Your home SIM stays untouched.

3 / 3
That's it, land connected

Your plan starts per the policy on its card, at purchase, or first connection in your destination. One rule forever: never delete the eSIM; top up instead.

Mauritius eSIM FAQs

Which networks will I get in Mauritius?

Your eSIM roams on the main Mauritian networks, my.t and Emtel, and your phone automatically selects whichever is stronger where you are. In Port Louis, Grand Baie and Flic en Flac this means dependable 4G and LTE, with 5G in some of the busier spots. You do not need to choose a network by hand, as it is picked for you.

Do I get a Mauritius phone number or SMS?

No, this is a data-only plan, so it does not come with a Mauritian number and cannot make or receive normal calls or SMS. Keep your usual home SIM active in a separate phone to receive any bank or login OTP text messages. WhatsApp, iMessage and other internet-based calling and messaging apps work fine over the data.

How much data do I get and when does the plan start?

You choose the data amount when you buy, and the allowance shown on your plan is what you have for its validity period. Most plans start counting from the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Mauritius, not when you install it, so you can safely set it up on Wi-Fi before you travel. Once you land and Data Roaming is on, it begins automatically.

Will it work on Rodrigues and the offshore islands?

In the main resort and town areas you will have good speeds, but coverage gets thinner on Rodrigues, across the mountainous interior and on catamaran trips out to islets like Ile aux Cerfs. Expect slower or patchy data in those places, so download maps, tickets and booking details while you still have a strong signal in town. On the open sea between islands you may have little or no usable connection.
