Connectivity in Malta
Your eSIM connects to Malta's main mobile networks, GO, Epic and Melita, so you get solid 4G and LTE across the built-up areas and 5G in many parts of Valletta, Sliema and the surrounding harbour towns where your device and plan support it. Sliema and the St Julian's strip tend to hold the strongest signal, and Valletta's streets stay well covered even inside the old fortified centre. Gozo is covered too, though speeds can dip once you move away from Victoria into the quieter villages, and coverage naturally thins on open coastline, out in the countryside, on the small island of Comino and inside thick stone buildings.
This is a data-only roaming line, which means it registers on those Maltese networks as a visiting connection rather than a local SIM. Because it runs as roaming, you must switch on Data Roaming for the eSIM line in your settings, which is completely normal for a travel eSIM and adds no extra charge. There is no local Maltese number and no SMS, so keep your usual home SIM active in another phone if you need bank or login codes by text, while WhatsApp, iMessage and email all work fine over the data connection.
If your phone shows "No Service" or will not pick up a network shortly after you land at Malta International Airport, turn Airplane Mode on for about ten seconds and then off again, which forces the phone to search and latch onto GO, Epic or Melita afresh. Signal can also drop for a moment inside lifts, underground car parks, the thick walls of older Valletta and Mdina buildings and on the ferry crossing between Malta and Gozo, but it returns on its own once you are back in the open.
Because the connection is international roaming, your data may leave through a gateway outside Malta, so occasionally a website or streaming app will think you are in another country and show you content or prices for that region. This does not affect maps, messaging or general browsing, and everyday use across the islands stays smooth. Just keep in mind that the far corners of Gozo, rural inland stretches and Comino can be slower or patchier than the main towns, so the most consistent experience is in Valletta, Sliema and the built-up central belt.

Installed in minutes, before you fly
Do it on home Wi-Fi the day you buy. Three small steps:
The one-tap Install button on your delivery screen does it without any scanning. Prefer the QR? Open your email on a second screen. Samsung? Paste the manual code, it always works.
On Wi-Fi: set the eSIM as your data line, then turn Data Roaming ON for the eSIM line only, normal for travel eSIMs, costs nothing extra. Your home SIM stays untouched.
Your plan starts per the policy on its card, at purchase, or first connection in your destination. One rule forever: never delete the eSIM; top up instead.
Malta eSIM FAQs
Which networks will I get in Malta?+−
Your eSIM roams on Malta's main operators, GO, Epic and Melita, and your phone automatically selects whichever gives the best signal where you are. You do not choose the network manually, and coverage is strongest across Valletta, Sliema and the central built-up areas.
Do I get a Malta phone number or SMS?+−
No, this is a data-only plan, so there is no Maltese number and no text messaging. Keep your home SIM active in a separate phone for any bank or login codes sent by SMS, and use WhatsApp, iMessage or email for calls and messages over data.
How much data do I get and when does the plan start?+−
You choose the data allowance and validity when you buy, and the countdown usually begins the moment the eSIM first connects to a network in Malta rather than at the time of purchase. That means you can install it over Wi-Fi before you fly without using up your days early.
Will it work out on Gozo and the quieter areas?+−
Yes, GO, Epic and Melita all reach Gozo, so you will have data around Victoria and the main towns, though speeds can slow in the outlying villages and along open coastline. On tiny Comino and in remote rural inland spots the signal is thinner, so download anything important while you are still in the busier central areas.
