eSIM for the Balkans

This bundle suits the classic Balkan overland trip, the one where you start in one capital and finish in another, crossing several borders by bus, hire car or overnight train. Crossing a border inside the bundle needs nothing from you. Your phone drops the network it was using and registers on a partner network in the next country, usually within a few minutes of the checkpoint, and the same data balance keeps counting down. Three of the seven are in the EU and four are not, which matters because a Europe or EU-only plan often stops dead at those non-EU borders. This one does not.

Sizes run 1 GB over 7 days, 3 GB over 15 days, then 5, 10 and 20 GB over 30 days, so the validity window is really the first thing to match to your trip, not the gigabytes. A long weekend in one capital rarely needs more than 1 GB. Two or three weeks of maps, ferry timetables and photo uploads sits comfortably at 5 or 10 GB, and the price per gigabyte falls as the size goes up.

The honest trade-off: this is a seven-country list, not the whole peninsula. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Romania and Kosovo are not included, and a Sarajevo or Mostar detour is common enough on this route that it is worth checking your map first. Coverage is also at its best in cities, on the coast and along main roads; mountain passes, remote national parks and open-water ferry crossings can leave you without data.

• Install at home while the Wi-Fi is reliable; the plan starts at your first connection in the region, which is normally Belgrade, Sofia, Zagreb or Athens airport rather than a land border.
• Keep your home SIM active in another phone for bank codes; this eSIM is data-only with no number or SMS.
